Ranking as one of the top sports events in the world, and certainly in the horse industry, the Kentucky Derby draws Hollywood stars, political figures and royal dignitaries from around the world. Tickets are hard to come by, particularly with ever impressive recent years of Funny Cide, Barbaro and Street Sense. In fact, the track nearly closes down to the public during “Derby Week” (a week of parties and celebrations prior to the Kentucky Derby). Derby contenders maintain their morning workouts only on Monday and Tuesday of Derby Week before going into rest and quarantine until the big race. Churchill Downs tours, like many other activities, cease during Derby Week to the public. But Destination Equus guests will receive exclusive access that Monday for a private tour of the track, in-field, stabling areas, winners circle and the grand finale: a sneak peak at the 2008 Derby Contenders as you watch them breeze while you’re leaning on the rail, only a few feet away from the horses the world is watching that week.
Because they work out relatively early in the morning, excursion guests will depart the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington on Sunday afternoon, April 27th and spending the night in Louisville.
You’ll arrive at Churchill Downs bright and early Monday morning for an exclusive tour, breakfast with the jockeys and admission to the Kentucky Derby Museum. Board the buses late morning for an early afternoon arrival back at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort.
$275 per person (double occupancy)
$350 per person (single occupancy)
