Meet the Founder
I love watching people watch horses.
What is it about horses that leave us so supremely mesmerized? The question will beckon any number of answers from horse lovers: soul, spirituality, intelligence. Perhaps its answer is irrelevant to the supreme amazement that it truly does exist.
I grew up loving horses. Didn’t own my first horse until my mid-teens. I fell in love with the spirit and beauty of the Arabian, and landed myself a job at a nearby Arabian farm, happy as a clam to mow the lawn and clean stalls.
Like most, it just kind of stuck with me.
Doors opened for my love of horses through summer jobs here and there. I did several marketing/journalism internships in the horse industry, and soon after graduation moved to Denver to work for the Arabian Horse Association. The experience provided me with a wealth of special opportunities, where I found my niche in planning equine events that were brimming with emotion, passion and inspiration. To me, this only made sense.
As if my plate wasn’t full enough, I decided to try a new concept in my “free time”: a professionally organized farm tour after an inspirational experience in the historic Santa Ynez Valley of California (see History of VAH Tour). The tour was a bang-up success. What I saw was profound. The enthusiasm and awe from the guests inspired the farms, who then volleyed back the positive energy to the guests with more passion, and the guests “matched it and raised them one” again. By the end of the weekend, every person involved in the tour (from staff to farm personnel to tour guests) were so caught off guard by the inspiration and emotion that swept through the weekend, we were all exhausted, , happy, and full of pride and resolve for why we loved horses.
I believe that, no matter what your passion is, the community experience of being reminded why you are who you are is one of the most priceless things life can give you. Which is why it’s my personal goal that each Destination Equus vacation fulfills that requirement, first and foremost. And I’m proud to say I think we’re accomplishing that goal (see Testimonials).
There is a quote I framed on my wall overlooking my office: “For as we dream, so shall we become.” May you give your dream full room to form who you are. In our case, the Magic of Equus.
The honor would be ours to host you as a guest of a Destination Equus vacation. Hope to see you soon.
